We’ve been training people in Larne since 2015, and in that time we’ve coached all sorts: complete beginners, parents juggling school runs and shift work, former rugby players who miss the team environment, and people who haven’t exercised in years. Here’s what we’ve learned about the myths that hold people back.
Myth 1: “It’s only for athletes.”
CrossFit is built on scaling, which means every workout is adjusted to the person doing it. The same session might be a ring row for one member and a strict pull-up for the next. Same workout, same effort, different load. Nobody in our Larne gym is expected to match someone else’s numbers.
Myth 2: “I’ll be thrown in at the deep end.”
New members start with an intro where a coach takes you through the foundations: squatting, pressing, deadlifting, and the basics of Olympic lifting. You’ll learn to move well before intensity becomes the focus, and you’ll go at a pace that suits you.
Myth 3: “It’s all about the leaderboard.”
The whiteboard is there to motivate, not to judge. The members who get the best results aren’t the fastest in the room. They’re the ones who turn up consistently, week after week.
Myth 4: “I’ll get injured.”
Most injuries come from poor technique, ego, and training with no guidance. Coached warm-ups, small groups, and scaling options are how we keep people moving well for years, not just weeks.
Myth 5: “I don’t have time.”
Our classes are structured, so you walk in, get coached, and walk out in about an hour. No wandering around wondering what to do next. For busy people in Larne, that structure is often the difference between training for a month and training for a decade.
Why train in Larne?
You don’t need to travel to Belfast or further afield for quality coaching. We’re right here at Unit 53 Ledcom, 100 Bank Road, Larne, and many of our members train before work, on their lunch break, or after dropping the kids off. Larne has a strong community feel, and our gym reflects that. People know each other’s names, celebrate each other’s first pull-up, and notice when someone’s gone quiet for a week.
What you’ll actually get
• A coach watching your technique in every session
• A different workout each day, so you never get bored
• Strength, fitness, and confidence that carry over into everyday life, from lifting the kids to hiking the Antrim Coast
• A community that wants you back when you’ve missed a few days
